The Compassionate Friends

Over the last two decades, Bethany for Children & Families has partnered with The Compassionate Friends (TCF) to provide grief resources to grieving parents. TCF is a non-profit, self-help organization that offers friendship and support to families who have experienced the death of a child. The loss of a child is one of the most devastating events a family can suffer. When a child dies at any age, a family experiences intense pain, isolation, and hopelessness.

The death of a child is not simply something one “gets over” - the reality is that it is ongoing, everyday process of learning to live the rest of life with that loss. Toward that end, TCF is comprised of other bereaved parents who offer personal comfort, hope, and support to every family who has lost a son, daughter, sister or brother, or grandchild. The goal of TCF is that everyone who needs help with receive help.

A monthly support group is offered at Bethany for Children & Families on the fourth Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. Led by parents who understand and continue to live this experience, TCF is open to parents, grandparents, and siblings who have experienced the death of a child. There is no need for reservations.

Along with the support group, TCF offers a monthly newsletter that contains articles, stories, and reflections that offer information and education to help assist families in the positive resolution of grief. For more information and/or to receive the newsletter, please contact: Bill Steinhauser (309) 781-1500 bsteinhauser@bethany-qc.org
